| Dutch ..... Orde van reptielen die worden gekenmerkt door de hoornen schubben of schilden op de huid. De dieren leggen eieren of baren levend. Ze hebben beweegbare vierkantsbenen, waardoor ze de bovenkaak kunnen bewegen ten opzichte van de hersenschedel. De mannetjes hebben een hemipenis, hetgeen uniek is voor gewervelde dieren. De eerste soorten ontstonden in de Boven-Jura. De orde bevat ongeveer 7900 levende soorten hagedissen, slangen en echte wormhagedissen. |
