|
Note: Refers to the style of art and architecture resulting from the spread of the Renaissance from Italy into northern Europe in the late 15th century. It took hold principally in the courts of the French kings after the invasion of Italy in 1494, in the Netherlands with Margaret of Austria, and in Germany with the emperor Maximillion, and was later adopted by the dukes of Bavaria and by the English royal court. It is characterized by the influence of Classical prototypes and Italian Renaissance ideals, an emphasis on detail, optical clarity, and the use of oil paint and glazes to create brilliant colors.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de stijl van de kunst en architectuur die het gevolg was van de verspreiding van de renaissance vanuit Italië naar Noord-Europa aan het eind van de 16de eeuw. Het werd vooral toegepast aan de hoven van de Franse koningen na de invasie van Italië in 1494, in de Nederlanden door Margaretha van Oostenrijk en in Duitsland door Keizer Maximiliaan. Het werd later omarmd door de Hertogen van Beieren en door het Koninklijke Hof van Engeland. De noordelijke renaissance kenmerkt zich door de invloed van klassieke prototypen en Italiaanse renaissance-idealen, door het benadrukken van details, door optische helderheid en het gebruik van olieverf en glansmiddelen om heldere kleuren te creëren. |
