Note: A handwoven textile of Japan made from twisted paper thread. Shifu was manufactured from the 1600s for use in paper products such as book covers and for two sorts of cloth: a coarse fabric for work clothes; a very fine material used and sold by the Samurai. Shifu production declined with the disappearance of the Samurai class.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Een met de hand geweven textielsoort uit Japan die gemaakt wordt van gedraaide stukken papier. Shifu werd vanaf de 17e eeuw geproduceerd en werd gebruikt in papierproducten, zoals boekkaften, en in twee soorten stof: een ruw textiel waarvan werkkleding werd gemaakt, en een zeer fijne stof die gebruikt en verkocht werd door de samoerai. Toen de samoerai als klasse verdwenen, begon de productie van shifu af te nemen.
