Note: The Color hierarchy contains terms for the names of colors, and for color in the sense of qualities perceived through vision responding to different wavelengths of light. Also included are terms for types of color (e.g., "cool colors") and color-related phenomena (e.g., "color mixture"). Descriptors for color names are drawn from the Universal Color Language (UCL), U.S. Department of Commerce, National Bureau of Standards. Centroid color numbers, which refer the user to the appropriate color-blocks on the Inter-Society Color Council and National Bureau of Standards color name charts, are also provided. Color designations that are near-synonyms, but not true synonyms, are placed in a separate concept record and linked as Associative Relationships. Relation to other hierarchies: Terms for inherent physical characteristics other than color but which may relate to color (e.g., permanence) are in the Attributes and Properties hierarchy. Terms for physical phenomena perceptible in color (e.g., "abrash," "color shift") are in the Conditions and Effects hierarchy. Terms for individual and repeating design elements such as signs and symbols, motifs, patterns, and areas of decoration are in the Design Elements hierarchy (e.g., "crosses," "Tudor roses," "frets"). Terms for materials used to impart color to physical things (e.g., "dye," "pigment") are found in the Materials hierarchy.

| Dutch ..... De hiërarchie onder Kleur bevat descriptoren voor de namen van de kleuren, en voor kleur in de betekenis van eigenschappen die worden waargenomen door het oog, als reactie op de verschillende golflengten van het licht. Daarnaast zijn descriptoren opgenomen voor typen kleuren (bijvoorbeeld koele kleuren) en met kleur verwante verschijnselen (bijvoorbeeld kleurmenging). De descriptoren voor kleurnamen zijn afkomstig van de UCL (Universal Color Language), zoals opgenomen in Kenneth L. Kelly & Deane B. Judd, Color: Universal Language en de Dictionary of Color Names, (Washington, D.C.: U.S. Department of Commerce, National Bureau of Standards, 1976). Varianten op kleurnamen afkomstig uit andere bekende systemen voor kleurenrangschikking en methoden voor het benoemen van kleuren zijn eveneens opgenomen. Voorts zijn opgenomen de centroïde kleurengetallen, welke de gebruiker doorverwijzen naar de overeenkomstige kleurblokken op de kleurennaamkaarten in de Dictionary of Color Names van de Inter-Society Color Council (ISCC) en het National Bureau of Standards. Ook zijn Munsellnotaties opgenomen; een gebruiker die de kleur van een object uiterst nauwkeurig wil beschrijven, kan echter het beste het Munsell Book of Color raadplegen (Baltimore: Munsell Color Company, 1976) en de kleur vergelijken met de opgenomen monsters, om zo de specifieke notatie te kunnen bepalen. Kleurbenamingen die als bijna-synoniem maar niet als werkelijk synoniem worden beschouwd, zijn gekoppeld in de vorm van Associatieve relaties. Relaties met andere hiërarchieën: descriptoren voor inherente fysieke kenmerken die geen kleur zijn maar wel een relatie met kleur hebben (bijvoorbeeld onvergankelijkheid) zijn opgenomen in de hiërarchie Attributen en eigenschappen. La jerarquía COLOR contiene descriptores para nombres de colores, y para color en el sentido de cualidad percibida a través de la visión respondiendo a diferentes longitudes de onda de la luz. También incluye descriptores para tipos de color (ej; colores frios) y fenómenos relacionados con colores (ej; mezcla de color). Descriptores para nombres de colores son extraídos del Universal Color Language (UCL), como se encuentran en Kenneth L. Kelly y Deane B. Judd, Color: Universal Language y Dictionary of Color Names. Variantes de nombres de colores de otro bien conocido sistema de orden de colores y métodos de designación de color entregados como descriptores no preferentes con la correspondencia UCL de los nombres del color. Números de colores, los cuales hacen referencia al usuario al bloque de color apropiado en la Inter-Society Color Council y cartas de color del Nationa Bureau of Standards mencionadas en el Dictionary of Color Names se dan como descriptores no preferentes.
