Note: Term used by the Association for Preservation Technology (APT) which promulgates structural engineering as a component of architectural conservation in the United States. Buildings preservation initially developed in this country without including engineers since older buildings tended to be relatively small and engineers were engaged in constructing large new structures. The aging of those large structures, along with public interest in preserving relatively recent architecture, recommends the development and implementation of preservation engineering.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Term die wordt gebruikt door de Association for Preservation Technology (APT), die in de Verenigde Staten bouwtechniek als component van architectuurconservering propageert. Bij het behoud van gebouwen in dit land maakte men oorspronkelijk geen gebruik van ingenieurs, omdat oudere gebouwen relatief klein waren en ingenieurs druk waren met de bouw van grote nieuwe constructies. Nu die grote constructies ook ouder worden, en nu er publieke belangstelling komt voor het behoud van relatief nieuwe architectuur, wordt de implementatie van 'preservation engineering' aanbevolen.
