Note: The act and discipline of composing drawings that visually communicate how something functions or is constructed. The need for precise communication in the preparation of a functional document distinguishes technical drawing from the expressive drawing of the visual arts. Technical drawing is used for architecture and engineering. There are two methods of technical drawing: manual or by instrument and computer aided design.

| Dutch ..... Het ambacht van het maken van tekeningen volgens geldende normen en voorschriften. In tegenstelling tot "vrij tekenen" dat een kunstvorm is. Er wordt een onderscheid gemaakt tussen werktuigbouwkundig tekenen, elektrotechnisch tekenen en civieltechnisch (=bouwkundig) tekenen. Technisch tekenen kan op 2 manieren gebeuren, namelijk handmatig of machinaal, maar ook met behulp van de computer ontwerpen (CAD) of kortweg computerondersteund ontwerpen. |
