Note: The variety of German language that developed after ca. 1100 CE, based on the upper German dialects Alemannic and Bavarian that had begun to arise in the southernmost part of Germany. Middle High German was the language of an extensive literature that includes the early 13th-century epic "Nibelungenlied."

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... De variant van de Germaanse taal die zich ontwikkelde na ongeveer 1100 n. Chr., en die gebaseerd was op de Opperduitse dialecten Alemannisch en Beiers, die in het zuidelijkste deel van Duitsland waren opgekomen. In het Middelhoogduits bestond een uitgebreide literatuur, waartoe onder andere het vroeg-13de-eeuwse heldendicht 'Nibelungenlied' behoort.
