Note: Long formal trains, made of luxurious materials that were compulsory wear for women at royal court from the beginning of the 19th century. Worn with a court dresses, these may be attached from the waist, or with straps around the shoulders, or both. The decoration of court trains was controlled by protocol according to the station of the wearer. |
