Note: Species of vulture that ranges from southern Mexico to Argentina, where they soar singly or in pairs over tropical forests. Noted for distinctive color: the head and neck are red, yellow, and bluish; the eyes are white with red eye-rings; the body is buff above and white below; and the neck fringe is gray. Wingspan is about 2 metres; the body is about 80 cm (31 inches) long.

| Dutch ..... Soort gier die voorkomt van Mexico tot Argentinië, waar ze alleen of in tweetallen boven tropische bossen zweven. De soort heeft karakteristieke kleuren: de kop en nek zijn rood, geel en blauwachtig; de ogen zijn wit en omgeven door een rode kring; het lichaam is vaalgeel aan de bovenkant en wit aan de onderkant; en de kraag bij de nek is grijs. De vogel heeft een vleugelspanwijdte van ongeveer 2 meter; het lichaam is ongeveer 80 cm lang.
