Note: Chinese solar festival focused on honoring ancestors, that starts on the 15th day after the vernal equinox. It originated from the custom of offering sacrifices to ancestors; observances include the veneration of ancestors, honoring their teachings and virtues, sweeping their tombs, having picnics, and placing willow branches on doors. Ancestor worship flourished after the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). Because the date of the Qingming Festival was close to the Hanshi Festival (Cold Food Festival) and the Shangsi Festival (Double Third Festival), customs of these two festivals have been adopted in the retained in, Qingming Festival, including the banning of fire, eating raw food, sweeping tombs, and spring outings.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 中國最重要的祭祀節日，於春分節氣後15日(西曆4月4日或5日)舉行，用以祭祖和慎終追遠。清明原是中國傳統24節氣之一，早期並無確切的活動記載，唐代後漸具規模，由於清明時間與寒食節及上巳節相近，寒食禁火、掃墓與上巳春遊的風俗習慣便逐漸轉移保存於清明之中。清明重要的活動便是祭祖上墳，人們在掃墓之餘，趁機踏青郊遊，形成普遍的春遊活動 |
| Dutch ..... Chinees zonnefestival dat draait om het eren van de voorouders en dat begint op de vijftiende dag na de lente-equinox. Het kwam voort uit het gebruik om offers aan de voorouders te brengen; gebruikelijke activiteiten op deze feestdag zijn tegenwoordig onder andere de verering van de voorouders zelf, het eren van hun leer en hun deugden, het schoonmaken van hun graven, picknicks en het plaatsen van wilgentakken op deuren. De voorouderverering bloeide na de Tang-dynastie (618-907 n.Chr.). Omdat de datum van het Qingmingfestival dicht bij die van het Hanshi- of 'koud eten'- en het Shangsi- of 'dubbele derde'-festival viel, zijn sommige van de gebruiken van deze feestdagen, waaronder een vuurverbod, het eten van rauw voedsel, het schoonmaken van graven en het maken van lente-uitstapjes, opgenomen in het Qingmingfestival. |
