Note: Valveless brass aerophones with conical bores. These were used mostly in the military to give signals to the infantry. Now chiefly used to refer to trumpet-like instruments of this kind in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, distinguished from modern "bugles."

Dutch ..... Koperen blaasinstrumenten zonder kleppen of ventielen, met conische boring. Militair instrument gebruikt om het signaal van de infanterie te geven. 1825. 
Portuguese ..... Aerofones de latão sem válvulas com furos cônicos. Estes foram usados principalmente nas forças armadas para dar sinais à infantaria. Agora usado principalmente para se referir a instrumentos semelhantes a trompetes desse tipo na Idade Média e na Renascença, distintos das modernas "cornetas".
