Note: A crystalline phenol first isolated in 1719, formerly much used as a fungicide and disinfectant in conservation of works of art. While it is effective as a mold and mildew inhibitor, thymol dissolves oil paints and varnishes over time, and discolors paper to which it has been applied.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Een kristallijn fenol dat in 1719 voor het eerst is geïsoleerd. Het werd vroeger bij de conservering van kunstwerken veel gebruikt als schimmeldodend en desinfecterend middel. Thymol werkt effectief om schimmel en meeldauw tegen te gaan, maar in de loop van de tijd lost olieverf erin op en verkleurt papier waarop het is aangebracht.
