Note: Annual carnival held in Bologna, Italy, in August, for over 500 years, celebrating the Feast of St Bartholomew and also the victory of Bolognese forces over Frederick II during the Battle of Fossalta in 1249. The carnival concluded with the city's nobles feasting on a roasted suckling pig.

| Dutch ..... Een jaarlijks carnaval dat meer dan 500 jaar lang in Bologna, in Italië, werd gehouden, om de feestdag van Sint Bartolomeüs en daarnaast de overwinning van de Bolognese troepen op Frederik II in de Slag van Fossalta in 1249 te vieren. Bij de afsluiting van het feest aten de edellieden van de stad gezamenlijk een geroosterd speenvarken op. |
