Note: Species of spreading oak tree that is native to North American, in the greater Midwest, ranging downward to the deep South and over into the eastern edge of the Great Plains of the U.S. When in the open, it grows to 60 feet in height by 80 feet in width, often with wide-spreading lower branches of great diameter. Chinquapin oak prefers moist, well-drained, deep, rich, alkaline soils, but is often found near the summit of hills or uplands in dry soils that may be rich, clay, sandy, or rocky. It also tolerates neutral to acidic soils. It thrives in full sun to partial sun (but is shade tolerant in youth).

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Eik met brede kroon die inheems is in Noord-Amerika, in het gebied dat zich uitstrekt van het Midden-Westen tot diep in het zuiden van de VS en tot de oostelijke rand van de Great Plains. In het vrije veld kan de boom 18 meter hoog worden en 24 meter breed. De boom heeft vaak lange en dikke lage takken en groeit bij voorkeur op vochtige, diepe, vruchtbare en alkalische aarde met een goede afwatering, maar ook vaak in de buurt van heuveltoppen of hoger gelegen gebieden met een droge grond die klei bevat of vruchtbaar, zanderig of rotsachtig is. De boom verdraagt ook neutrale tot zure grond en gedijt in de volle tot gedeeltelijke zon (jonge bomen kunnen ook goed tegen schaduw).
