Familie van houtige struiken en bomen (en een paar overblijvende kruidachtigen) met 160 genera en 1700 soorten die overal ter wereld voorkomen, met name in warme gematigde en tropische gebieden. De meeste soorten vindt men in Afrika en Australië, vaak in halfdroge bosgebieden. Veel leden van deze familie zijn waardevol als sierstruiken en -bomen en vanwege hun eetbare vruchten. |
