Note: Genus containing 8 species of small coniferous trees or shrubs in the family Taxaceae, distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere. They are relatively slow growing, long-lived, and reach heights of 1-40 m, with trunk diameters of up to 4 m. Yews have rich, dark-green foliage with branches that are erect or spreading, closely covered with flattened, linear leaves. Other trees are called "yew," but are not true yews of this genus, including the plum-yew, Prince Albert yew, and stinking yew.

| Dutch ..... Genus van 8 soorten kleine naaldbomen of struiken uit de familie Taxaceae, die zijn verspreid over het hele noordelijk halfrond. Het zijn relatief langzaam groeiende, langlevende planten die 1 tot 40 meter hoog kunnen worden en waarvan de stam een diameter heeft van maximaal 4 meter. Taxussen hebben een warm donkergroen blad met rechtopstaande of uitspreidende, bedekt met afgeplatte, lineaire bladeren. Ook andere bomen worden taxus genoemd maar zijn geen echte taxussen van dit geslacht, waaronder de Cephalotaxus harringtonia, de Saxegothaea conspicua en de Torreya taxifolia. |
