Note: An optical effect manifested as a series of alternating light and dark colored bands; generally caused when one piece of glass with a curved surface rests on another with a flat surface, resulting in an interference of light waves. Named for the English physicist Sir Isaac Newton who first investigated their properties.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種光學效果,呈現出一連串深淺交替的色環。當表面彎曲的玻璃置於表面平坦的玻璃上,導致光波受干擾,多會造成此種現象。第一個對此進行分析者為英國物理學家艾薩克‧牛頓爵士,因而以之命名。 
Dutch ..... Een optisch effect dat zich manifesteert als een reeks afwisselend licht en donker gekleurde ringen. Het wordt meestal veroorzaakt door een stuk glas met een rond oppervlak dat ligt op een ander stuk met een plat oppervlak. Hierdoor ontstaat een interferentie van lichtgolven. Genoemd naar de Engelse natuurkundige Sir Isaac Newton, die als eerste onderzoek verrichtte naar de eigenschappen van de ringen.
