This style differs from contemporary Carolingian style in its distinct architectural iconography, often including walls of "petit appareil," stilted brick arches, ashlar quoins, and timber roofs with small barrel vaults over the apses.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de stijl en cultuur van de regio Asturië in het noorden van Spanje (het huidige Oviedo), met name de culturen van het middeleeuwse koninkrijk Asturië uit de 8e en 9e eeuw. De stijl wordt gekenmerkt door het behoud en de ontwikkeling van de klassieke Romeinse vormen en architectonische technieken, vooruitlopend op de romaanse stijl in Europa die twee eeuwen later opkwam.
