Note: Modern term for a type of embroidery made in various places, including Italy, since the 16th century. The pattern in Assisi work is reserved in plain linen and the rest of the ground is covered with long-armed cross stitch in red or other colors. It was supposedly first produced in convents in Assisi although this is unlikely; the term instead probably derives from the fact that such embroidery has been made in Assisi in recent times.

Dutch ..... Moderne term voor een type borduurwerk dat sedert de 16de eeuw in Italië en op andere plaatsen wordt gemaakt. Het patroon van Assisi-werk wordt uitgespaard in gewoon linnen, terwijl de rest van de ondergrond wordt bedekt met een gevlochten kruissteek in rood of andere kleuren. Dit type borduurwerk zou het eerst zijn vervaardigd in nonnenkloosters in Assisi, hoewel dit niet waarschijnlijk lijkt; vermoedelijk is de term ontstaan doordat dit borduurwerk meer recent in Assisi wordt geproduceerd. 
German ..... Moderne Bezeichnung für eine Art von Stickerei, die an verschiedenen Orten, Italien einbezogen, seit dem 16. Jahrhundert entstanden ist. Das Muster in der Assisi-Stickerei wird ausschliesslich auf einfachem Leinen ausgeführt, wobei die Fläche mit langarmigen Kreuzstichen in rot oder anderen Farben bedeckt ist. Sie wurde angeblich zuerst in Konventen in Assisi hergestellt, obwohl das unwahrscheinlich ist; stattdessen kommt die Bezeichnung daher, dass Stickereien neuerer Zeit in Assisi angefertigt wurden.
