Note: Refers to works created in linen or another fabric on which a design is produced by drawing threads out of the body of a piece of material to create a mesh, and then stitches are worked on the mesh. It was highly developed in Italy and preceded the development of needle lace in the 16th century. It continued to be created in many nations, and commonly appears as a standard needlework type on embroidery samplers from the 17th century onward.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar werk dat is gemaakt van linnen of een andere stof, waarop een motief is aangebracht door een draad te trekken door het materiaal, waardoor een maaswerk ontstaat dat vervolgens met steken wordt bewerkt. Het werd vooral ontwikkeld in Italië en was een voorloper van de naaldkant uit de 16de eeuw. Het werd ook daarna nog in veel landen geproduceerd en is vaak te zien als standaard naaldwerk op borduurmerklappen uit de 17de eeuw en later. |

Se refiere a trabajos creados en lino u otro género en los cuales el diseño es producido al dibujar con hilos que sobrepasan el cuerpo de una pieza del material produciendo una malla y las puntadas están trabajadas sobre la malla. En Italia se desarrolló profusamente y precede al desarrollo del encaje de aguja del siglo XVI. Continuó creándose en muchos países y comúnmente aparece como un tipo de trabajo de aguja estándar en ejemplos de encajes del siglo XVII en adelante.
