Note: Vessels designed to carry cargo packed in standardized, sealable, and reusable containers, that are made to fixed dimensions (usually either 20 or 40 feet in length) and designed to stack and lock together. They are also characterized by the lack of cargo handling gear, which is located on shore terminals rather than aboard ship. Container ships require large hatches in the deck for stowing the cargo; belowdecks typically is a cellular grid of compartments opening to the weather deck and designed to receive the containers and hold them in place until unloading is achieved at the port of destination.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 設計來載運以標準化、可密封且可重複使用的容器裝箱之貨物的船,這些容器依固定尺寸製造(通常為20或40英尺長),且設計成可以堆疊並固定在一起的型式。貨櫃船的另一特色是船上缺少裝卸貨物的裝置,而是將該裝置安裝於岸上碼頭。貨櫃船的甲板上需有大型的艙口,以容納貨物;甲板下有格狀劃分的船艙,於露天甲板處有開口,設計用來容納裝載貨物之容器,並存放於船隻,直到到達目的地港口並卸貨完成為止。

German ..... Wasserfahrzeug, entworfen, um Ladung zu transportieren, die in standardisierten, versiegelbaren und wiederverwendbaren Containern verpackt ist. Die Container haben feste Abmessungen (Länge gewöhnlich entweder 20 Fuß (6,096 Meter) oder 40 Fuß (12,192 Meter)) und sie sind zum Stapeln und ineinander Verhaken vorgesehen.
