Note: Japanese barrel drums with two heads, only one of which is struck; the size and ratio of diameter to length vary greatly, and the membranes are either tacked to the body or laced on, sometimes lapped over metal rings and then laced. Taiko have a legendary origin in Japanese folklore, but historical records suggest they came to Japan in the 6th century CE through Korea and China. |
