Note: Short cylindrical Japanese reedpipes with double reed and conical bore, having seven front fingerholes, two rear thumbholes, and a ring of cane guarding the reed. Originating in China and known in Japan since the 8th century, they were formerly made of hardwood, bone, or horn, but now usually of bamboo lacquered on the inside.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 日本的短柱形簧管樂器,具有雙簧與圓錐形內徑,前有七個指孔,後有兩個姆指孔,套有藤環以保護簧片。篳篥源自中國,西元八世紀時傳入日本,早先以硬木、獸骨或獸角製成,但現今多以內部上漆的竹管所製。 
Dutch ..... Korte cilindrische rietinstrumenten uit Japan, met een dubbel riet, conische boring, zeven toongaten aan de voorkant, twee duimgaten aan de achterkant en een bamboe ring die het riet beschermt. Ze komen oorspronkelijk uit China en zijn sinds de 8e eeuw bekend in Japan. Voorheen werden ze van hardhout, been of hoorn gemaakt, tegenwoordig meestal van bamboe dat aan de binnenkant is gelakt. 
German ..... Kurzes, zylindrisches Blasinstrument in Japan mit einem Doppelrohrblatt und konischer Bohrung, sieben vorderständigen Fingerlöchern und zwei Daumenlöchern sowie einem Bambusring, der das Rohrblatt in Form hält. Ursprünglich in China entwickelt und in Japan seit dem 8. Jahrhundert bekannt, wurde das Instrument früher aus Hartholz, Knochen oder Horn hergestellt; heute ist es jedoch gewöhnlich aus inwendig lackiertem Bambus gefertigt. 
Spanish ..... Tubos japoneses de lengüeta, cortos y cilíndricos, con lengüeta doble y diámetro interior cónico, provistos de siete orificios para los dedos adelante, dos orificios para los pulgares en la parte de atrás, y un anillo de caña para proteger la lengüeta. Originarios de China y conocidos en Japón desde el siglo VIII se construyeron primero de madera dura, hueso o cuerno, pero ahora generalmente se hacen de bambú laqueados en el interior.
