Note: Heavy, woven textiles used as wall hangings, curtains, upholstery, or to hang from windows or balconies. Tapestries are characterized by decoration that may include ornamental or pictorial subjects; they often have details that are painted or embroidered. They are usually of wool and hand-woven on a tapestry loom by a process that differs from cloth-weaving in that the weft travels only to the warp at the edge of a particular color or pattern in the design, rather traveling from edge to edge of the entire piece of fabric. Various techniques are used in mixing and overlaying colors to create shading and patterns. The term also refers to machine-woven imitations of hand-made hangings.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Verwijst naar zwaar, geweven textiel dat als wandbekleding, gordijn of meubelbekleding wordt gebruikt, of vanaf een raam of balkon omlaag hangt. Kenmerkend voor tapisserieën is het decoratieve karakter, met ornamentele of picturale thema's; vaak zijn ze voorzien van geschilderde of geborduurde details. Meestal zijn tapisserieën van wol en met de hand geweven op een weefgetouw, met een procedé dat afwijkt van het normale textielweven: de inslag reikt slechts over een gedeelte van de schering, namelijk tot de rand van een bepaalde kleur of patroon in het ontwerp, en dus niet van rand tot rand. Voor het mengen en combineren van kleuren van schaduwpartijen en patronen worden diverse technieken gebruikt. De term verwijst tevens naar machinaal vervaardigde imitaties van met de hand gemaakte wandkleden. 
Spanish ..... Referentes a tejidos gruesos usados como colgaduras de murallas, cortinas, tapicería de pared, o colgaduras de ventanas o balcones. Tapices caracterizados por decoración que puede incluir temas ornamentales o pictóricos; a menudo tienen detalles pintados o bordados. Normalmente son de lana o tejidos a mano en un telar de tapicería por un proceso que se diferencia del tejido de tela en que la trama va sólo a la urdiembre en el borde de un color o modelo particular en el diseño, más bien que viaja desde un borde a otro de la pieza completa de tela. Varias técnicas son usadas mezclando y sobreponiendo colores para crear sombras y diseños. El término también se refiere a colgantes producidos a máquina que imitan los hechos a mano.
