Note: Refers to a Protestant denomination that arose out of the 16th-century Anabaptists of Holland and Switzerland, particularly from the so-called Swiss Brethren. The name comes from one of their leaders, Menno Simons, a Dutch priest who consolidated and institutionalized the work begun by the moderate Anabaptists. Mennonite doctrine includes the practice of baptism upon confession of faith and adherence to the Confession of Dordrecht (1632) and the teachings of the New Testament. Mennonites, who are pacifists, have a policy against holding public office. Although Mennonites can be found in many parts of the world, most live in the United States and Canada.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een protestantse gezindte die zijn oorsprong had in de 16de-eeuwse anabaptisten van Nederland en Zwitserland, in het bijzonder de zogenoemde Swiss Brethren. De naam is afgeleid van die van een van hun leiders, Menno Simons, een Nederlandse priester die het werk dat was gestart door de gematigde anabaptisten consolideerde en institutionaliseerde. De doctrine van de mennonieten bestaat onder andere uit het uitvoeren van de doop direct na de geloofsbelijdenis, en trouw aan de Confessie van Dordrecht (1632) en de leer van het Nieuwe Testament. Mennonieten, die pacifisten zijn, hebben als beleid dat ze geen overheidsfuncties vervullen. Hoewel zich overal ter wereld mennonieten bevinden, leven de meeste van hen in de Verenigde Staten en Canada. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a la religión protestante que surge de los anabaptistas de Holanda y Suiza en el siglo XVI, particularmente de los así llamados "Hermanos suizos". El nombre viene de uno de sus líderes, Menno Simons, un pastor holandés quién consolidó e institucionalizó el trabajo comenzado por los anabaptistas moderados. La doctrina mennonita incluye la práctica del bautismo sobre confesión de fe y la adherencia a la Confesión de Dordrecht (1632) y las enseñanzas del Nuevo Testamento. Los Menonitas, como política no realizan cargos públicos. Aunque los Manonitas se encuentran repartidos en varias partes del mundo, la mayoría vive en EE.UU y Canada. |
