Note: A light brown or buff-colored dolostone that is well-cemented, free of jointing, and ideally suited for building purposes. It is often used as a building stone in Toronto, Canada as it is quarried in southern Ontario; Queenston limestone caps the Niagara Escarpment. Before a quarry operation was begun at Queenston in about 1840, Scottish settlers exploited the limestone beds for building materials; the present quarry is one of the oldest in Canada. |

Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種淺棕色或淺黃褐色的白雲岩,黏結度佳、看不出接縫處,故為理想建築材料。產於加拿大安大略省(Ontario)南部,為多倫多地區常見的建築用石。尼加拉陡崖(Niagara Escarpment)頂端即由昆斯頓石灰岩構成。西元1840年左右在昆斯頓(Queenston)開始出現正式營運之採石場,於此之前蘇格蘭移民即於石灰岩礦床開採石材做為建材;目前的昆斯頓石灰岩礦場為加拿大年代最久的礦場之一。 |
Dutch ..... Een lichtbruin of vaalgeel dolomiet dat goed gecementeerd en breukvrij is. Het is bij uitstek geschikt voor bouwdoeleinden. Het wordt vaak gebruikt als bouwsteen in het Canadese Toronto, omdat het wordt gewonnen in het zuiden van Ontario. Queenston-kalksteen bedekt de cuesta van Niagara. De winning in Queenston begon rond 1840, maar daarvoor zochten Schotse kolonisten al naar bouwmaterialen in de kalksteenbedden. De huidige groeve is een van de oudste van Canada. |
Spanish ..... Piedra dolomita marrón claro o color ante bien cementada, libre de uniones y que se presta extraordinariamente para la construcción. Se utiliza a menudo como piedra de construcción en Toronto, Canadá, en la medida que es extraída en el sur de Ontario. La caliza de Queenston culmina la escarpa del Niágara. Antes de comenzar la explotación de las canteras en Queenston en torno a 1840, los colonos escoceses explotaron las capas de caliza para extraer materiales de construcción. La actual cantera es una de las más antiguas de Canadá.
