Note: Refers to a philosophy developed by Plotinus in Alexandria in the 3rd century CE that consists of a modified version of Platonism combined with aspects of Judaic and Christian thought and possibly Oriental mysticism. Neo-Platonism holds that there is one source from which all existence comes from and with which an individual soul can be mystically united; it also emphasizes the plurality of levels of being, with the physical universe perceptible to the senses being the lowest. Neo-Platonism developed in a variety of forms over many centuries and it has enjoyed numerous revivals and modifications throughout history.

Chr., waarbij deze een aangepaste versie van het platonisme combineerde met aspecten van het joodse en christelijke gedachtegoed, en mogelijk ook van oosters mysticisme. In het neoplatonisme is er één bron waaruit alles wat bestaat, voortkomt en waarmee een individuele ziel op mystieke wijze kan worden verenigd. Bovendien bestaan er meerdere zijnsniveaus, waarvan het fysieke universum dat zintuiglijk waarneembaar is, het laagste is. Van het neoplatonisme zijn in de loop van vele eeuwen verschillende vormen ontwikkeld; het leefde talloze malen opnieuw op in de geschiedenis en is vaak aangepast. |

Se refiere a la filosofía desarrollada por Plotino en Alejandría en el siglo III de la era cristiana, que consiste en una versión modificada del Platonismo combinada con elementos del pensamiento judaico y cristiano y posiblemente del misticismo oriental. El neoplatonismo sostiene que hay una fuente desde la cual toda existencia viene desde y con la que un alma individual puede estar misticamente unida; también enfatiza la pluralidad de niveles del ser, siendo el universo físico perceptible a los sentidos siendo los más bajos. A lo largo de los siglos el neoplatonismo se desarrolló en una variedad de formas y surgió en una serie de renacimientos a lo largo de la historia. |
