Note: Lights consisting of an open flame emitted from a stick-like handle, usually carried by hand or mounted on a wall or pole. Torches originally consisted of a stick of resinous wood or bundles of fiber soaked with pitch, wax, resin, tallow or other flammable substance. In later usage, includes other sorts of lamps on poles that are designed to be carried like torches. |

Dutch ..... Lichten die meestal in de hand worden gedragen. Ze bestaan uit een stuk harshoudend hout of bundels van vezels die met pek, was, hars, talk of een andere brandbare stof worden doordrenkt. De naam wordt ook gebruikt voor lampen op stokken die als fakkels worden gedragen. |
German ..... Lichtquelle, die meistens in der Hand getragen wird und aus einem Stock aus harzigem Holz oder einem Fasernbündel besteht, das in Pech, Wachs, Baumharz, Talg oder anderen brennbaren Substanzen getränkt wurde; auch eine Lampe auf einem Stab, die wie eine Fackel getragen werden kann. |
Spanish ..... Luces, generalmente llevadas a mano, que consisten en un palo de madera resinosa o manojos de fibra remojados en brea, cera, resina, sebo u otra sustancia inflamable; también lámparas sobre palos diseñadas para ser llevadas como antorchas. |
