Dutch ..... Oude militaire toestellen waarmee zware projectielen, bijvoorbeeld grote stenen, werden gegooid; bestaan voornamelijk uit een lange rechtopstaande arm met een lepelvormige of slingerachtige houder om het projectiel te dragen aan de bovenkant, waarbij de onderkant vast is gemaakt aan stutten of een verplaatsbaar onderstel. De bovenkant wordt met een windas en touwen neergetrokken tot de arm parallel loopt aan de grond; wanneer er los wordt gelaten wordt het projectiel door de door torsie opgebouwde kracht weggeschoten. 
Spanish ..... Antiguos artefactos militares usados para arrojar proyectiles pesados como grandes piedras, consistentes esencialmente en un brazo largo vertical con un recipiente en forma de cuchara o como una honda para transportar el proyectil en su extremo superior, el extremo inferior amarrado a postes o a un armazón móvil. El extremo superior es jalado hacia abajo mediante cuerdas hasta dejarlo paralelo al suelo; al soltarse la fuerza generada por la torsión lanza el proyectil.
