Note: Refers to the regional style of Central Java. Decorative arts and costumes of this region feature the use of teritik to outline motifs, textiles worn as headcloths, large ceremonial wraps and sashes, and kain kembangan floral and plaid motifs. The textile method of production known as ikat is used as a form of patterning in which portions or patterns of yarn are tied off to resist the dye. Court dress styles featured appliqué on imported silk textiles positioned over the plain central lozenge area of a breast-cloth and ceremonial wraps. In sculpture, the style features the earliest examples of stone monuments and candis, rare figures of Hindu deities, relief panels that depict rigid, clockwise narrative sequences, and Buddha statues seated on lion thrones. Religious sculptural programs were driven by the elitism of Buddhism, resulting in a preponderance of Buddhist iconography and art. Unlike styles in other regions of Java, this style has little tradition of inscribed stone images. In architecture, the style features stepped sanctuaries, truncated pyramid structures, and makara ornaments that adorn staircases.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de regionale stijl van Centraal-Java. Decoratieve kunsten en kostuums uit dit gebied worden vaak gekenmerkt door het gebruik van teritik voor het omlijnen van motieven, textielproducten die worden gedragen als hoofddoeken, grote ceremoniële omslagdoeken en sjerpen en kain kembangan bloem- en plaidmotieven. De textielmethode van de productie die bekend staat als ‘ikat’ wordt gebruikt voor het aanbrengen van patronen, waarbij gedeelten van patronen van draad worden afgebonden om de verfstof tegen te houden. Hofkledingstijlen werden gekenmerkt door appliqué op geïmporteerde zijden textielstoffen die over het effen, centrale ruitvormige gebied van een borstkleed en ceremoniële omslagdoeken werden aangebracht. In de beeldhouwkunst wordt de stijl gekenmerkt door de vroegste voorbeelden van stenen monumenten en candi's, zeldzame afbeeldingen van hindoegoden, reliëfpanelen die rigide, kloksgewijze narratieve sequenties afbeelden en Boeddhabeelden gezeten op leeuwentronen. Centraal in religieuze beeldhouwkundige programma's staat het elitaire karakter van het boeddhisme, waardoor boeddhistische iconografie en kunst de overhand hadden. In tegenstelling tot stijlen in andere gebieden van Java, wordt deze stijl niet gekenmerkt door een traditie van gegraveerde stenen afbeeldingen. In de architectuur wordt de stijl gekenmerkt door getrapte sanctuaria, afgeknotte piramideconstructies en makara-ornamenten ter versiering van trappen. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere al estilo regional de Java Central. Las artes decorativas y trajes de esta región presentan el uso de teritik para delinear los motivos, textiles llevados como turbantes, mantos grandes ceremoniales y fajas, y motivos kembangan kain florales y a cuadros. El método de producción textil conocido como ikat se usa como una forma de decoración de acuerdo a un modelo en el que porciones o muestras de estambre se atan afuera de resistirse el tinte. Los estilos de los vestidos de corte exhiben appliqués sobre telas de seda importados colocados sobre el área sin adornos del rombo central de un paño para el pecho y mantos ceremoniales. En escultura, el estilo ofrece los ejemplos más tempranos de monumentos de piedra y candis, figuras raras de deidades hindúes, paneles de relieve que representan rígidas secuencias narrativas en el sentido de las agujas del reloj y estatuas de Buda sentado en tronos de león. Los programas esculturales religiosos fueron exclusivamente inspirados por el Budismo lo que resultó en una preponderancia de la iconografía y el arte budista. A diferencia de otros estilos en otras regiones de Java, este estilo tiene poca tradición de imágenes de piedra grabadas. En arquitectura, el estilo ofrece santuarios escalonados, estructura piramidales truncadas y ornamentos de makara que adornan las escaleras. |
