Note: Metamorphic rock, commonly rich in quartz and feldspar with a banded and foliated texture comprising bands of light colored minerals that alternate with bands of dark colored minerals. It is composed of mica, quartz, and schist, with additional iron, magnesium and silicates. It is formed at temperatures above 550 degrees Centigrade. Gneiss is similar to granite in composition and may be classified as a type of granite, but it is produced by the alteration of igneous and sedimentary deposits, whereas granite is formed of igneous deposits.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 變質岩之一種,通常含有豐富石英及長石,淺色和暗色礦物條紋相互交替,形成帶有條紋及葉狀紋理。片麻岩含有雲母、石英、片岩,另有鐵、鎂和矽酸鹽。攝氏550度以上的高溫下形成。片麻岩與花崗岩成分相似,也可歸類為花崗岩的一種,但片麻岩是由火成及沉積礦床製成,花崗岩則由火成礦床形成。

Spanish ..... Roca metamórfica, comúnmente rica en el cuarzo y feldespato con una textura veteada y foliada que comprende las cintas de luz coloreo minerales que alternan con las cintas de minerales oscuros coloreados. Esta compuesto de mica, cuarzo, y esquisto, con hierro adicional, magnesio y silicatos. Se forma en temperaturas sobre los 550degC. Gneis es similar al granito en la composición y puede ser clasificado como un tipo de granito, pero es producido por la alteración de depósitos ígneos y sedimentarios, mientras que el granito es formado de depósitos ígneos.
