Note: A dark purplish-red rock, first quarried in ancient Egypt, containing relatively large crystals in a fine-grained igneous matrix. One of the hardest rocks, it takes a high polish and is valued as a durable sculptor's material and as a decorative architectural material. It is considered the best material for the muller and slab used for grinding artists' colors.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Een donkerpaars-rood gesteente, voor het eerst gedolven in het oude Egypte, dat relatief grote kristallen bevat in een fijnkorrelige stollingsmatrix. Het is een van de hardste, gesteenten, is glad gepolijst en wordt gewaardeerd als duurzaam materiaal voor beeldhouwers en als een decoratief bouwkundig materiaal. Het wordt beschouwd als het beste materiaal voor de wrijfsteen en schuurplaat die door kunstenaars worden gebruikt voor het schuren van kleuren. 
Spanish ..... Roca roja o violeta oscuro extraída en primer lugar en las canteras del antiguo Egipto y que contiene cristales relativamente grandes de una matriz ígnea de grano fino. Como una de las rocas más duras, alcanza un acabado pulido y es muy apreciada como material de esculturas y como material arquitectónico decorativo. Es considerado el mejor material para la moleta y placa utilizadas para moler los colores por los artistas.
