Note: A hollow clay masonry unit whose net cross-sectional area in every plane parallel to the bearing surface is not less than 60% of its gross cross-sectional area measured in the same plane. In British usage it refers to a brick with holes in it that total at least 25% of its volume, the holes being not less than 3/4 in. (1.91 cm) wide or 3/4 sq. in. (4.84 sq. cm) in area.

Dutch ..... Een hol metselvoorwerp van klei, waarvan de netto dwarsdoorsnede van elk vlak parallel aan het draagvlak ten minste 60% is van de totale oppervlakte van hetzelfde vlak. De Britten gebruiken de term voor een baksteen waarvan ten minste 25% van het volume uit gaten bestaat. Daarbij zijn de gaten ten minste 1,91 cm breed of 4,84 vierkante cm groot. 
Spanish ..... Unidad de albañilería de arcilla y hueca cuya sección en cualquier plano paralelo a la superficie de apoyo es no menor al 60% de su sección más gruesa, medida en el mismo plano. En el uso que se da en Gran Bretaña, ladrillo con hoyos que constituyen por lo menos 25% de su volumen, siendo los hoyos no menores a 3/4 de pulgada (1,91 cm.) de ancho ó 3/4 de pulgada cuadrada (4,84 cm2) en superficie.
