Note: Designation used for painters in 14th- through 18th-century northern and southern Europe who specialized in decorative work or minor works rather than painting the main subjects of primary paintings. It was defined within the painters' guild of St. Luke; it also included house painters and varnishers. Coarse painters were considered of lower status than "artist painters."

| Dutch ..... Aanduiding voor schilders in de 14de tot en met de 18de eeuw in Noord- en Zuid-Europa die gespecialiseerd waren in decoratief werk of kleinere werken in plaats van in hoofdonderwerpen van schilderijen. De term was gedefinieerd binnen het Sint-Lucasgilde en gold ook voor huisschilders en vernissers. De status van kladschilders was lager dan die van 'kunstschilders (schilderscategorieën)'.
