Note: Culture of the tribal hill people of the Shan region and adjacent areas of eastern Myanmar (Burma), as well as southwestern Yunnan province of China. Some Palaung groups are organized in patrilineal lineages similar to those of the Kachin, their neighbours to the north; elsewhere their organization is more like that of the Shan. Shan-type Buddhism coexists with various local cults based on ancestor worship.

| Dutch ..... Cultuur van de tribale heuvelbewoners van de Shan-regio en aangrenzende gebieden in het oosten van Myanmar (Birma), en van de provincie Yunnan in het zuidwesten van China. Sommige Palaung-groepen zijn georganiseerd in patrilineale geslachten, zoals die van de Kachin, hun buren in het noorden; elders is hun organisatie meer zoals die van de Shan. Boeddhisme van een vorm zoals bij de Shan bestaat naast diverse plaatselijke culten op basis van voorouderverering.
