Note: Naturally occuring as tinstone or cassiterite, stannic oxide is the principal ore of tin. It can be artificially obtained as an anhydrous powder when tin is burned in the presence of oxygen, or by igniting stannous hydrate or stannous oxalate. Stannic oxide is used in the manufacture of white glazes and enamels, and as an opacifier. In its pure state is white or light yellow in color.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Tin(IV)oxide komt in de natuur voor als cassiteriet en is het voornaamste tinerts. Het kan kunstmatig geproduceerd worden in de vorm van een niet in water oplosbaar poeder, door tin in aanwezigheid van zuurstof, tin(II)hydraat of tin(II)oxalaat te verbranden. Het wordt gebruikt voor de productie van witte glazuur- en emailvormen en als dekmiddel. In zuivere staat is het wit of lichtgeel van kleur.
