Note: Species of bush or small tree of Asia; it is 16 or 23 feet in height, has elliptic to lance-shaped, bright-green leaves, long and handsome axillary orange-red flowers borne toward the ends of the branchlets, and a red fruit, which is a calyx is tubular and persistent and has five to seven lobes.The fruit is the size of a large orange. While the pomegranate is considered indigenous to Iran and neighbouring countries, its cultivation encircled the Mediterranean and extended through the Arabian Peninsula, Afghanistan, and India in ancient times. It is commonly cultivated in the Americas from the warmer parts of the United States to Chile.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Struik- of kleine boomsoort die inheems is in AziĆ«; hij wordt zo'n 5 tot 7 meter hoog en heeft ovale, lansvormige en lichtgroene bladeren, lange, fraaie, okselstandige en oranjerode bloemen die dicht bij het einde van de tak gedragen worden, en een rode vrucht, die omringd wordt door een buisvormige, blijvende kelk en vijf tot zeven lobben heeft. De vrucht heeft het formaat van een grote sinaasappel. Hoewel gedacht wordt dat de granaatappel oorspronkelijk uit Iran en omstreken komt, reikte de teelt ervan al in de oudheid over het hele Middellandse Zeegebied, het Arabisch Schiereiland, Afghanistan en India. De soort wordt tegenwoordig veel verbouwd in Noord- en Zuid-Amerika, van de warmere delen van de Verenigde Staten tot Chili.
