Note: Seismic reflection surveying is a form of geophysical surveying based on the principle that acoustic energy imparted into the earth by an impact source (such as a sledgehammer or explosives) will bounce, or "reflect," off subsurface interfaces. Seismographs and acoustic sensors ("geophones") record the reflections. Reflection seismic techniques study the arrival times, amplitude, and shape of the reflected waves.

Deze vorm van geofysisch onderzoek is gebaseerd op het principe dat akoestische energie die in de vorm van contactgeluid aan de aarde wordt overgedragen (zoals bij een moker of springstoffen), terugkaatst of 'reflecteert' van vlakken onder het aardoppervlak. Seismografen en akoestische sensoren ('geofoons') leggen de reflecties vast. Met technieken voor seismische reflectie worden de aankomsttijden, amplitude en vormen van de teruggekaatste golven bestudeerd. |
