Note: Genus of 7 species of large tropical trees, deciduous or evergreen depending upon the species. The leaves are harvested as animal food; the bark and other parts used for medicinal purposes; the swellable gum is used for many purposes; and the wood, which resembles true mahogany of the genus Swietenia, is harvested for dugout canoes, furniture, and many other purposes.

Dutch ..... Genus van 7 soorten grote tropische bomen, waarvan sommige bladverliezend en andere groenblijvend zijn. De bladeren oogst men om aan het vee te voeren. De schors en andere delen gebruikt men voor medicinale doeleinden. De opzwelbare gom wordt op een groot aantal manieren gebruikt. Het hout lijkt op echt mahoniehout van bomen uit het genus Swietenia. Men gebruikt het voor meubels, het uithakken van kano's en diverse andere doelen.
