|
Note: Refers to distinctive glass made in Venice, Italy. It can refer to early glass made from about 450 CE when glass-makers from Aquileia fled there and were soon joined by others from Byzantium. In addition, the term is particularly used to refer to glass made on the Venetian island of Murano from before 1292 to the present day. It is generally a sodiac type of glass; soda glass is light in weight and highly ductile. Venetian glass incorporates a number of styles and techniques although Venetian glass-makers particularly excelled in the making of colored glass, agate glass, opaque white glass (lattimo), cristallo, filigrana, and millefiori. Engraving is rarely found while enameling and gilding are common, particularly in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century specimens. In order to protect their profits and the secrets of Venetian glass, the Venetians confined glassmakers under pain of death to the island of Murano; however, the techniques were eventually imitated in "Altare glass" and "façon de Venise." | Dutch ..... Verwijst naar karakteristiek glas vervaardigd in Venetië, Italië. Het kan verwijzen naar vroeg glas dat werd gemaakt vanaf ongeveer 450 n. Chr. toen glasmakers uit Aquileia daarheen vluchtten en anderen uit Byzantium zich al snel bij hen voegden. Verder is de term in het bijzonder van toepassing op de productie van glas op het Venetiaanse eiland Murano. Al voor 1292 werd hier glas gemaakt en dit is nog steeds het geval. Het is doorgaans een soort sodaglas, licht van gewicht en gemakkelijk bewerkbaar. Venetiaans glas kent een aantal stijlen en technieken. Venetiaanse glasmakers excelleerden echter vooral in het maken van gekleurd glas, agaatglas, melkglas (lattimo), cristallo, filigrana en millefiori. Gravering van het glas is zeldzaam. | Spanish ..... Se refiere al vidrio característico fabricado en Venecia, Italia. Puede referirse al primer vidrio fabricado hacia 450 d.C., cuando vidrieros de Aquileia huyeron hasta allí y se les sumaron otros de Bizancio. Además, el término se utiliza en particular para el vidrio fabricado en la isla veneciana de Murano desde antes de 1292 hasta nuestros días. Se trata en general de un tipo de vidrio con sosa. El vidrio con sosa es liviano y muy dúctil. El vidrio veneciano incorpora muchos estilos y técnicas, aunque los vidrieros de Venecia se destacan en particular en el vidrio coloreado, el vidrio de ágata, el vidrio blanco opaco (lattimo), el cristallo, la filigrana, y el millefiori.
