Note: Short, comparatively light artillery pieces combining some of the characteristics of cannons and mortars, able to fire heavy shells with a high curving trajectory but with a longer range than typical of mortars. Their development began around the end of the 16th century and continues to the present.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Kort, naar verhouding licht geschut dat kenmerken combineert van kanonnen en mortieren, en zware projectielen kan afvuren in een hoge gebogen baan, maar met een groter bereik dan mortieren. Hun ontwikkeling begon tegen het einde van de 16e eeuw en zet zich nog steeds voort. 
Spanish ..... Piezas de artillería cortas y comparativamente ligeras que combinan algunas de las características de los cañones y de los morteros, con capacidad para disparar pesadas balas con una trayectoria curva alta pero con un alcance mayor que el alcance típico de los morteros. Su desarrollo empezó hacia fines del siglo XVI y han continuado desarrollándose hasta hoy en día.
