Note: Refers to the relatively short-lived culture that is named after the site at Solutré, France, and flourished primarily in southwestern France and nearby areas from around 21,000 to 17,000 Before Present. The culture followed the Perigordian and Aurignacian cultures and was succeeded by the Magdalenian, but scholars disagree about whether the culture was an evolution of local traditions or an intrusion of new peoples into the area. It is characterized by the creation of the usual tools of the period, plus a new preoccupation with ornament, including bone jewelry, tools, and implements that are decorated and fashioned from stone chosen for its beauty, such as colored quartz and jasper, as well as distinctive symmetrical, bifacially flaked, laurel-leaf and shouldered flint points, some of which may have served a ritualistic rather than utilitarian function.

Verwijst naar de relatief kortstondige cultuur die vernoemd is naar de archeologische vindplaats Solutré, die voornamelijk in het zuidwesten van Frankrijk floreerde tussen 21.000 en 17.000 jaar geleden.Deze kwam na de culturen van de Perigord en Aurignac en ging vooraf aan de Magdalenische, maar onderzoekers zijn het er niet over eens of deze cultuur ontstond uit lokale tradities of door invloeden van nieuwe indringers in het gebied. De cultuur kenmerkt zich door de vervaardiging van de voor die periode gebruikelijke werktuigen, maar met een nieuwe preoccupatie met ornamentatie, zoals: juwelen gemaakt van botten, werktuigen, en stenen voorwerpen, gekozen om hun schoonheid, waaronder gekleurde kwarts en jaspis, alsmede duidelijk symmetrische, tweezijdig afgeschilferde, laurierbladvormige en geschouderde vuurstenen punten, waarvan sommige waarschijnlijk eerder een rituele dan een gebruiksfunctie hadden. |

Se refiere a la cultura relativamente efímera que lleva el nombre del sitio en Solutré, Francia, y que floreció principalmente al sudoeste de Francia y las áreas cercanas desde alrededor del 21.000 al 17.000 años antes del presente. La cultura siguió a las culturas Perigordiense y Auriñacense y que fue sucedida por la Magdaleniense, pero los estudiosos discrepan sobre si la cultura fue una evolución de tradiciones locales o una intrusión de nuevos pueblos en el área. Se caracteriza por la creación de las herramientas corrientes del período, más una nueva preocupación por el ornamento, que incluye alhajas de hueso, herramientas, y utensilios que se decoran y se forman de piedras escogidas por su belleza, como cuarzo coloreado y jaspe, así como características puntas de sílex simétricas, laminadas bifacialmente, con forma de hoja de laurel, algunas de las cuales pueden haber servido a funciones rituales más bien que utilitarias. |
