Note: Works created by using a resist material, such as tempera, gouache, waxy crayon, or another material, to create a design on a support, usually heavy watercolor paper. The design is covered with ink, allowed to dry, and the ink is washed off. In areas where the underlying material was omitted or thinly applied, the black ink pervades; in areas where the underlying material was more thickly applied, its color and texture remain.

| Dutch ..... Werken die gemaakt zijn met behulp van een beschermend materiaal, zoals tempera, gouache, waskrijt of een ander materiaal, zodanig dat er een ontwerp ontstaat op een drager, meestal zwaar aquarelpapier. Het ontwerp wordt bedekt met inkt, men laat het drogen en dan wordt de inkt eraf gewassen. Op gebieden zonder of met weinig beschermmateriaal dringt de zwarte inkt door; op gebieden waar het beschermmateriaal dikker is aangebracht, blijven de kleur en textuur behouden.

| Portuguese ..... Trabalhos feitos com materiais resistentes tais como têmperas, guache, giz de cera ou outro material para criar um desenho sobre um suporte, geralmente papel grosso para aquarela. O desenho é feito com tinta que pode ser aguada. Em áreas nas quais o material foi pouco aplicado, a tinta preta permeia; em áreas nas quais o material foi mais aplicado, sua cor e textura permanecem. |
