Note: Analytical technique which combines properties of thermal analysis and microscopy to enable the solid state characterization of materials as a function of temperature. A sample substance is placed on a metal strip with a temperature gradient, a melting-point apparatus known as a Kofler bench, thereby revealing its thermal behavior at the temperature at that point when studied with a suitable polarized-light microscope.

Analytische techniek die eigenschappen van thermische analyse en microscopie combineert om de kenmerken van materialen in de vorm van vaste stoffen als functie van de temperatuur te kunnen bepalen. Een monster wordt aangebracht op een Kofler-bank (metaalstrip met temperatuurgradiënt), waardoor met een geschikte gepolariseerd-lichtmicroscoop het thermale gedrag bij de temperatuur van dat punt worden waargenomen. |
