Note: Tabernacles in Christian churches having multiple compartments or niches, usually two or three, each of which can be revealed or brought forward using a rotating device. The compartments typically could hold a monstrance, a ciborium, and a crucifix; the niches could be highly decorated. Rotating tabernacles were considered mechanical marvels, and were relatively rare, most common in 18th-century northern European Roman Catholic churches.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Altaarkast, waarin een draaibare inrichting, meestal verdeeld in twee of drie compartimenten. In één deel wordt het vaatwerk met de geconsacreerde hosties bewaard, een tweede deel kan als expositietroon worden gebruikt en het derde deel bevat een geschilderde of gebeeldhouwde voorstelling, bijvoorbeeld een gekruisigde Christus.
