Note: Drawings of a pointing hand that were used as symbols in marginalia for marking noteworthy passages in texts, particularly during the 12th through 18th centuries in the Western world. In modern use, the manicule is a typographical symbol employed for similar purposes in texts, the Internet, as bullet symbols, and other contexts.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 一隻指前示意的手的圖像,過去做為欄外標註符號,用來在書頁上標示出需特別注意的段落,於西元十二至十八世紀間在西方世界特別通用。現今則將手指指前示意的圖案列為印刷符號之一,在文章、網際網路與其他背景脈絡中當做項目符號來使用。 
Dutch ..... Afbeelding van een hand met een gestrekte wijsvinger die men bij teksten in de kantlijn zette om de aandacht te vestigen op opmerkelijke passages, met name van de twaalfde tot de achttiende eeuw in de westerse wereld. Tegenwoordig gebruikt men de index als een typografisch symbool voor hetzelfde doel in teksten of op internet, maar ook als opsommingsteken en in andere contexten.
