Note: Voluminous cloaks worn by higher Christian prelates, typically bishops and cardinals. In design, it is often circular, of purple or red color, having a large hood, and so large that the back trails on the ground, and the front is draped over one arm to allow free movement of the feet. This very full form did not develop until the 14th century.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Grote ronde purperen of rode mantel met een grote kap en een gat voor het hoofd die wordt gedragen door hogere prelaten, bisschoppen en kardinalen. Door de grootte van de mantel sleept de achterkant over de grond en moet de voorkant gedeeltelijk over een arm worden gedrapeerd om er niet over te struikelen. Pas in de veertiende eeuw kreeg de koorkap zijn huidige vorm.  
German ..... Voluminöser, runder, lilafarbener oder roten Mantel, mit einer großen befestigten Kapuze und mit einem Loch für den Kopf, von höheren Prälaten, Bischöfen und Kardinälen getragen. Wegen ihrer Größe hängt die Cappa magna an der Rückseite auf de Boden und die Vorderseite muss teilweise über einen Arm drapiert werden, um eine freie Bewegung der Füße zu ermöglichen. Diese sehr bauschige Form entwickelte sich erst im 14. Jahrhundert.
