Note: Papal ring used to seal the class of papal official documents known as Briefs. The earliest mention of the fisherman's ring worn by the popes is in a letter of Clement IV written in 1265. Public documents are distinguished by the leaden bulls rather than the fisherman's seal. The fisherman's ring is placed by the cardinal camerlengo on the finger of a newly elected pope. It is made of gold, with a representation of St. Peter in a boat, fishing, and the name of the reigning pope around it.

| Dutch ..... Pauselijke zegelring voor het verzegelen van officiële pauselijke documenten die men breves noemt. De eerste vermelding van een vissersring die door een paus werd gedragen staat in een brief van Clemens IV uit 1265. Openbare documenten zijn voorzien van de loden bul en niet van het zegel van de vissersring. De vissersring wordt om de ring van nieuw gekozen pausen gedaan door de kardinaal-camerlengo. De ring is gemaakt van goud. Er staat een afbeelding op van een vissende Sint Petrus in een boot, met de naam van de betreffende paus eromheen. |

Die früheste Erwähnung der Nutzung des Ring des Fischers findet sich in einem Brief Clements IV von 1265. Öffentliche Dokumente sind in der Rgel gekennzeichnet durch bleieren Bullen denn durchden Ring des Fischers. Dieser Ring wird vom Kardinal-Kammerdiener auf dem Finger eines neu gewählten Papstes platziert. Es ist aus Gold, mit einer Darstellung des angelnden heiligen Petrus in einem Boot; der Name des regierenden Papstes wird um ihn herum abgebildet. |
