Note: Political ideology that advocates a transition to a socialist society, achieved gradually through the democratic process. Originally a form of Marxism, the movement grew out of the formation of the German Social Democratic Worker's Party in 1869, which eventually led to the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Its philosophy evolved and eventually rejected militarism, totalitarianism, and revolution as a means for political change. A main advocate of social democracy was theorist Eduard Bernstein, who parted ways with Marx and Engel, instead positing that democracy must be embraced in order to instill socialist changes. Following the Second World War, several social-democratic governments came to power, including those in West Germany and Sweden.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種政治思想意識，主張應透過民主過程逐步進行變革，以建立一個奉行社會主義的社會。社會民主主義最初為馬克思主義的一種形式，於 1869 年德國社會民主工人黨成立後開始發展；此黨最後演變為德國社會民主黨。社會民主主義的思想不斷發展，最後摒棄了軍國主義、極權主義及革命，不再藉由這些手段來達到政治變革。社會民主主義的主要擁護者為愛德華‧伯恩斯坦（Eduard Bernstein）。伯恩斯坦與馬克思及恩格斯的思想分歧，主張必須接納民主以逐步進行變革來實踐社會主義。第二次世界大戰後，某些奉行社會民主主義的政府開始掌權，包括西德及瑞典的政府。 |
| Dutch ..... Politieke ideologie die een geleidelijke overgang naar een socialistische samenleving bepleit via het democratische proces. De beweging, oorspronkelijk een vorm van marxisme, begon in 1869 met de oprichting van de Duitse Sociaal-Democratische Arbeiderspartij, die uiteindelijk heeft geleid tot de Sociaal-Democratische Partij van Duitsland. De bijbehorende filosofie evolueerde en verwierp uiteindelijk militarisme, totalitarisme en revolutie als methoden van politieke verandering. Een belangrijk pleitbezorger van de sociaaldemocratie was de theoreticus Eduard Bernstein, die zich afkeerde van Marx en Engels en in tegenstelling tot hen stelde dat de democratie moest worden omarmd teneinde socialistische veranderingen door te voeren. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog kwamen in verscheidene landen sociaaldemocratische regeringen aan de macht, onder meer in West-Duitsland en Zweden. |

En sus orígenes era una forma del marxismo, movimiento que creció a partir de la formación del Partido Laboral Socialdemócrata Alemán en 1969 y el que luego llevó a formar el Partido Socialdemócrata de Alemania. Su filosofía evolucionó finalmente a rechazar el militarsimo, el totalitarismo y la revolución como cambio político. El teórico Eduard Bernstein, uno de los principales defensores de la social democracia, quien se distanció de Marx y Engels diciendo que la democracia debe abrazarse para poder instalar los cambios socialistas. Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial llegaron al poder varios gobiernos social demócratas, incluidos Alemania Federail y Suecia. |
