Note: Generally any craftsperson involved in the manufacture of felt. The Worshipful Company of Feltmakers was one of the Livery Companies of London, makers of felt hats, incorporated in 1604. Current usage most often refers to artists and craftspeople who create sculptural or wearable objects from felted fibers, usually wool. For those who create works from fibrous material in general, use "fiber artists."

| Dutch ..... In algemene zin, iedere handwerker die bij de vervaardiging van vilt is betrokken. In Londen bestond sinds 1604 de Worshipful Company of Feltmakers, een bedrijf dat tot het livreigilde behoorde en waar vilten hoeden werden vervaardigd. In het tegenwoordige taalgebruik verwijst 'viltmakers' meestal naar kunstenaars en ambachtslieden die gebeeldhouwde of als kledingstuk bedoelde voorwerpen creëren uit viltvezels, meestal wol. Gebruik 'textielkunstenaars' als algemene aanduiding van personen die werken creëren uit vezelig materiaal. |
